The City of New Orleans

As Mayor, I will address all of the issues that matter to you.

We have some serious issues that need to be resolved in our city and I am the leader who will work tirelessly towards finding solutions.  I will bring together the best team possible to serve you at City Hall, but I believe citizen involvement is key and that every neighborhood is important.  When I am mayor, I plan on forming community-based task forces to assist me in tackling major issues facing our city.  It is only by all of us working together that we can move this city forward.

I invite each of you to learn more about my position on specific issues below. Please feel free to email me and tell me about what issues matter the most to you and your family.

Solving the Crime Problem

Solving the Crime Problem in New OrleansOf the many issues facing New Orleans that the next mayor must address, crime is the most important.  Why?  Because we can have the smoothest streets, the most honest government and the best business incentives, but if New Orleans isn’t safe it will all amount to nothing.  My plan to address the crime problem in our city is the most complete and thorough, and you have my word that your community WILL become a safer place to live, work and raise a family.

An Effective and Open Government

Effective and Open GovernmentFor far too long, New Orleans has had a reputation as a hotbed of corruption.  No more!  In our City Hall, every employee will be held to the highest ethical standards.  Corruption, bribery, insider deals and nepotism will not be tolerated, and no one will be above the rules.  Treating City jobs like duties and requiring that people fulfill their responsibilities will make all of the difference in the world, not only to those on the outside, but also to you and the other citizens the government is here to serve.

Jobs and Economic Development

Jobs and Economic DevelopmentBusinesses don’t stay away or leave New Orleans because of the risk of floods.  They leave because of a culture of corruption that makes it difficult or impossible to do business here.  They leave because the city doesn’t feel safe for their employees.  And they leave because we aren’t doing enough to make the city hospitable to free enterprise.

Health Care and Hospitals

Health and HospitalsCreating access to health care isn’t just about opening the doors for development and growth.  It’s about you and your family.  You see, public health is important to our city in a lot of ways, but it’s most important because it affects people – people like you who work to make your life and our community better.  No one should be deprived of access to healthcare because of income or neighborhood.

Blight and Public Works

Blight and Public WorksThere is no longer an excuse for the blight and crumbling infrastructure that plagues our city.  Dilapidated housing and potholes that dot almost every block lower property values, invite crime, and send a message that New Orleans is not “open for business.”  My plan for solving this involves enforcing the rules already on the books.  If that means allocating more resources to code enforcement, then that’s what we’ll do.

Education

education_frontFor our city to fully recover, we must have schools that work. As your mayor, I will work towards school choice so families can send children to schools in their neighborhoods or another public school of their choice. I will support charter schools and other alternatives to continue to improve public schools in New Orleans. I will push to provide early childhood education for every family who wants it for their children.

Arts and Culture

mardi-gras_500Restoring our city means more than restoring our buildings and roads.  Our Cultural Heritage must also be protected. As your mayor, here are some of the steps I will take toward protecting New Orleans’ precious cultural heritage.  I will create a Mayor’s Office of Cultural Arts. I will treat Arts and Culture as the economic engine for the city that it is. Maintain funding for Arts Council.
