John Georges Born in Haiti

A mother whose life was saved by a doctor sent to Haiti by John Georges has named her new born son John Georges.  New Orleans physician, Dr. Charles Rene, who is in Haiti, reports that the mother needed an emergency c-section because her life and the baby’s life were in jeopardy.

“It took a saga to deliver this baby.” said Dr. Charles Rene. “We traveled 30 miles on a bad road to another facility with our supplies to save this mom and baby’s lives. It was an arduous travel so remindful of our effort to make it to Haiti. Again, there are no words to express our thankfulness to John. We shared our story of how we were able to come to Haiti with the parents and suggested the name. They were more than grateful to name the baby after John.”

“I am honored, but mostly I am thankful that the doctors were there to save little John Georges and his mother,” said John Georges.  “As I pledged before this is just the beginning of a partnership between New Orleans and Haiti.  The aid that I will help provide will continue.”

Georges sent a group of New Orleans doctors and nurses to Haiti 10 days ago, January 24, 2010.  The doctors and nurses have been working in Jacmel, Haiti treating children and adults with various injuries and ailments.  The group reports that they spend their days delivering babies, performing amputations, treating facial injuries and managing dehydration.  They say the situation at times is overwhelming, but they know they are making a difference.
